My boyfriend flew in to spend the weekend together and enjoy Seattle’s Bumbershoot return over Labor Day weekend this year. We’ve stayed at Hotel Crocodile before, so we already knew the location was perfect. This 21+ hotel in Seattle is on the corner of 1st Avenue and Wall Street in Belltown, within walking distance to both The Seattle Center and Pike Place Market - essential Seattle tourist stops!

Those familiar with the music history of the original Crocodile Cafe will understand why this intimate hotel is such a gem for fans. One of my favorite things about having guests visit me in Seattle from out of town is sharing all the little factoids I’ve collected from living here since the 90s. I’m pretty sure I saw Toadies at the Crocodile Cafe when it was still at its original location just a couple of blocks away on 2nd and Blanchard.

The Crocodile relocated to the former site of The Sailor’s Union of the Pacific Lodge in 2021, and with the relocation came the addition of an all-new 17-room exclusive adult hotel above the famed music venue.

The day before check-in, we were emailed the door code. The Hotel Crocodile staff is partially remote but highly communicative and very friendly. They let us know the entry door is just to the right of the venue entrance, and that we would be greeted with two flights of stairs right away. There is no elevator, so keep that in mind when you pack and consider your mobility needs. Because of the historic nature of the building, their website notes, some areas of the building are not accessible and they acknowledge, "We are committed to making our spaces accessible to all, and please consider this a work in progress."

You’ll be encouraged with a “Keep Going” sign at the top of the first flight of stairs and rewarded with your first huge Crocodile mural once you reach that first landing. One more flight of stairs, and you arrive into a lush lobby lounge that feels spacious with the natural light of the skylights pouring in and then bouncing off the mirror ball in the center of the room. Relax there, browse their collection of vinyl, and put one on, or go ahead and find your room down either of two hallways off the lounge. In our case, the corner suite, Room 19, was just next to the host desk.

Every room is uniquely decorated with lush sitting furniture, the comfiest bedding, and original artwork. The hosts in the lobby keep the tea and coffee hot in the morning and are always just a bell ring away if you need anything. As the main landing pad for our Bumbershoot weekend, we couldn’t have picked a better spot!

What I love about this Seattle hotel is they know who they are and what they offer, and it’s not quiet. Hotel Crocodile does provide guests with complimentary earplugs in every room, but they don’t apologize for being a unique hotel experience above a music venue. It’s not for you if you want to bring the kids, if you have mobility and accessibility needs, or if you need a quiet peaceful place to sleep.

Hotel Crocodile is for you if you want to ditch the car and the kids and have full access to live music, great restaurants, and fun nightlife in Seattle.

If you’re a little loud, and you like it loud, you’ll like Hotel Crocodile.
